“As we observe children, we see the vitality of their spirit, the maximum effort put forth in all they do, the intuition, attention and focus they bring to all life’s events, and the sheer joy they experience in living.” Maria Montessori
Montessori Bilingual Preschool
Cocoon is a space created to support children’s early development from 12 months to 5 years old, in a safe and stimulating environment. Cocoon also offers the opportunity to develop Spanish as an additional language.
Montessori Method
Montessori is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity, multi-sensorial learning and collaborative play. In Montessori environments children are observed and guided by a trained adult, supporting their individual development. Children work in groups and individually to discover and explore knowledge of the world and to develop their maximum potential.
Montessori classrooms are beautifully crafted environments designed to meet the needs of children. Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that experiential learning in this type of environment leads to a deeper understanding of language, mathematics, science, art, music, social interactions and more.
Bilingual Spanish-English
Cocoon in Margate offers children the possibility of learning Spanish in a natural and effortless way. Spoken daily by one of the teachers and introducing vocabulary on everyday activities and materials through the 3 period lesson, a technique which Dr. Montessori developed to teach language. Songs, movements, reading books and fun activities in Spanish will be part of the child's daily routine.
Bilingual education supports cultural inclusion and diversity by encouraging children's communication skills and offering them a key to the world of languages.
Music in Cocoon
In Cocoon music is introduced through Active Listening activity and the introduction to the Kodály Method of teaching music.
Active Listening is an educational activity that combines an active listening to classical music and gestures which follow musical phrases, influencing and improving a child's listening, coordination and concentration.
Kodály Method is an approach to music education that was developed in Hungary during the mid-twentieth century by Zoltan Kodály. Children are first introduced to musical concepts through experiences such as listening, singing, or movement. Hand signs are performed during singing exercises to provide a visual aid (do, re, mi, fa, so, la, and ti).
